Charles Royer
National Program Director
Charles Royer was elected Mayor of Seattle in 1977 following a
career in newspaper and television journalism. During his twelve
years as mayor, Charles became a national spokesman for American
cities in housing, the arts, health care, energy, civil liberties
and the needs of children and youth. From 1990 until 1994, he served
as Director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University and
as a Lecturer at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Charles is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Washington with
appointments in the Graduate School of Public Affairs and in the
Graduate School of Public Health and Community Medicine.

Cynthia Curreri
Deputy Director
Before joining the UHI, Cindy Curreri held a number of federal-,
state- and municipal-government management positions, including
Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Washington; City Manager;
Deputy Mayor of Seattle; Deputy King County Executive; Director
of the Seattle-King County Health Department; Director, King County
Department of Budget and Policy Development; and Director of the
US Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Service Delivery
Assessment. Cindy is a Lecturer at the University of Washington,
with appointments in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine
and in the Graduate School of Public Affairs.

David Moseley
Associate Director
David joined the ICC as Vice President after 15 years of service
in city manager positions for three Washington State cities.
Previously he directed the Department of Community Development, the
Division of Youth Services, and the Community Accountability Program
(juvenile justice) for the City of Seattle. Other experience
includes Staff Director, Speaker of the Washington State House of
Representatives and Director, Telegraph Avenue Community Center
(Oakland). David was a Presidential Appointee to the National
Advisory Committee for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
He received his Masters of Divinity from Golden Gate Theological
Seminary and his BA from Willamette University.

Jerry VanderWood
Communications Director
Jerry VanderWood has held senior-level public relations positions
for nearly 20 years. Before joining the UHI staff in 1999, Jerry
VanderWood worked for six years as Director of Community Relations
for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Prior
to working at "The Hutch," Jerry served as Communications
Director for the Associated General Contractors of Washington, as
Chief of Staff and Legislative Director to U.S. Representative James
Saxton, and as Staff Assistant to U.S. Representative Carroll Campbell.
He received his bachelor's degree in Economics from the University
of South Carolina and is pursuing an MA in Communications from the
University of Washington.

Jill Griffin
Operations Manager
Jill Griffin joined the staff of UHI’s National
Program Office as Operations Manager in March 2004. Jill brings to
UHI 15 years experience in both the public and private sector. Most
recently, she served as the Application Engineering Department
Coordinator for Key Technology, Inc., in Walla Walla, WA. Prior to
Key, Jill was the Office Manager for Jubilee Youth Ranch, a
non-profit boarding school for at-risk boys in Eastern Washington,
managing the fiscal operations, personnel, and student services.

Jill Beytebiere
Operations Coordinator
Jill Beytebiere joined the UHI staff as Administrative Assistant
in July, 2000. She has worked for the University of Washington since
1983, holding administrative positions in Russian & East European
Studies, Marine Studies, and Molecular & Cellular Biology.

Jenny Bernard
Office Assistant
Jenny Bernard became the
part-time Office Assistant for UHI after spending about four years
in "practice" retirement. She held various positions in the Seattle
Headquarters Office of Casey Family Programs from 1987 until 2000.
She has also held administrative positions with Seattle METRO
Transit Division, King County Government and the University of
Washington Business School and School of Nursing. Jenny received
her bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of
Washington.
